Clearly, Kelly's an expert letter-forming craftswoman. I ordered this book for my son for Christmas and another Little Golden book from the same seller and I'm satisfied with both. The payoff at the end is well earned. If you want a reader to feel sorry for characters, it's usually done by providing a rich or engrossing backstory along with the character actually being likable (or at least sympathetic). Their pain becomes your pain as you see the terrible abuse that they go through in their daily lives, from physical, emotional, and (in the case of the girl) sexual. Taking place in the late 1950s, we see how politics, culture, technology and space exploration might have played out. He resides in Elyria Ohio with his wife and two daughters.
